General Description

The responsibilities of the Controls Engineer will include:

  • Provides technical support of automation and controls systems for a 24/7 manufacturing operation.
  • Diagnoses electrical wiring, relay logic, control and safety circuits, electronic boards, PLC's, touch screens, displays, contractor's, sensors and motors.
  • Works closely with the Maintenance, Engineering, and Operations personnel to address plant issues and to incorporate new equipment, capabilities and controls into plant operation.
  • Independently manages automation and control improvement projects.
  • Provides technical guidance and expertise to enhance troubleshooting skills and controls expertise of Maintenance technicians
  • Assures uniformity of component specifications, system design, and documentation.
  • Provide after-hours, on call support both remotely and onsite.
  • Works across departments to develop a culture of root cause problem identification and solution while encouraging a high level of cross functional communication.
  • Support operational performance improvement efforts to reduce costs, improve efficiency, reliability and quality which may require working some weekends and holidays.
  • Ensures the highest levels of safety, quality, sanitation, and regulatory compliance with NEC and other codes and standards.
  • Demonstrates leadership in compliance to plant safety rules, GMP regulations and company safety and quality programs.

Create, modify and support documentation and change control efforts on new and existing equipment.

Work Experience Requirements

  • Proficiency with Allen Bradley/Rockwell software and associated hardware: (Studio 5000/Control Logix, FactoryTalk Historian, Vantage Point, RSLogix 500, Factory Talk SE & ME, Studio 5000 View Designer, CCW)
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD – Autodesk software
    • Skilled with motor control circuits, VFDs (PowerFlex 75x and PowerFlex 52x), soft starters, starters, Servo Systems (Kinetix) and relays.
    • Good understanding of standard electrical circuits and instrumentation
    • In-depth understanding of Ethernet communication protocols.
    • Knowledge of Tatsoft Data Translation software is a plus.
    • Hands-on experience calibrating/setting up industrial instrumentation, flowmeters, level sensors and others
    • Standard skills in the Microsoft Office Suite
    • Must be a self-starter with a high-level integrity and honesty.
    • Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret technical procedures & electrical diagrams.
    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
    • Ability to complete work in a timely manner based on project/issue priority.
    • Ability to work in both with multi-functional teams and individually.
    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Education Requirements

  • AS in Electrical Technology or related discipline and 5+ years of experience
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related discipline and 2+ years of experience
