Job Description

The responsibilities of the R&D Technician will include:
• Organize and maintain a sanitary and safe R&D Benchtop lab plus clean work environment.
• Support lab-scale production of samples (weighing out ingredients, mixing, cooking, chilling, packaging) and serve as back-up support to the R&D Food Technologists.
• Calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments. Prepare and calibrate reagents; ensure that necessary laboratory supplies and equipment are available
• Prepare samples and perform sensory evaluation of products as well as data entry.
• Conduct analysis (texture, protein, fat, moisture…)
• Organize incoming shipments of dry ingredients, fresh meat and finished pet food products.
• Organize supplies and ingredients needed to produce samples.
• Ship/deliver customer sample requests in a timely manner.
• Assists with cleaning of ranges, ovens, refrigerators, freezers, lab equipment and Pilot Plant.
• May at times be required to travel (0-30%) to various training programs, test runs, co-packers or suppliers. Travel mileage and meals will be compensated.
• Supervise and participate TPRs.



Work Experience Requirements • Minimum 2 years of experience in food/pet food industry required • General laboratory and cleaning experience are preferred • Prior R&D, QA or Laboratory experience preferred • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and capacity to multitask efficiently • Ability to work in a team and adapt to dynamic work environment • Ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization • Responds well to changing project priorities • Independently carry out assignments and review data for accuracy and trends and communicate any concerns • Able to work with fresh raw meats and other food ingredients • Physically capable of handling or transporting heavy boxes and/or ingredients (up to 40 lbs) • Must have car to be able to ship/collect parcels. • Must be able to withstand some occasional cold temperature (40° F), when needed to sort out products in refrigerator (max 3 hours).


Education Requirements • High school diploma or equivalent required • Technical degree or certification in Nutrition/Food Science related field preferred
