General Description

  • Assisting in the development of pre-project approval documents including project charter, project management plan, project kick start, estimate and milestone schedule creation
  • Monitoring the design progress and deliverables are met in adherence to established project key components
  • Selecting contractors and contracting methods based on engineering ways of working methodology
  • Directing and executing installation, construction, and commissioning of assigned projects
  • Managing adherence to project scope and securing approvals for all changes in projects based on engineering ways of working methodology
  • Managing and controlling project budgets and providing cost forecasts and cash flow projections 
  • Managing and maintaining project milestone schedules with integrated detailed scheduling as agreed upon in the project charter.
  • Starting-up, commissioning, and ongoing technical support of process equipment and production lines.
  • Monitors processes for compliance with quality and GMP requirements in accordance with FDA and OSHA regulations
  • Providing construction management and plant startup assistance as needed to ensure successful project execution
  • Providing self-directed project management of assigned projects from end to end with minimal supervision from department manager
  • Monitoring the work output from less senior engineers on the project team as assigned by the department manager
  • Evaluating new technologies and evaluating the impact of process changes or new processes on product quality and productivity as well as plant infrastructure and utility systems. 
  • Providing technical support to Bethlehem Kitchens operations
  • Reinforcing Freshpet quality, safety and cultural values and maintaining strong relationships with vendors and other key stakeholders.
  • Availability on nights, weekends and holidays to manage project work and to respond to emergencies.

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Bachelors’ degree in an Engineering Field (Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering) or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years’ engineering experience in a food manufacturing environment.  Experience in meat protein, vegetable protein, or ready-to-eat food manufacturing is preferred.
  • 5+ years of project management experience in a food manufacturing environment.

  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills
  • Ability to analyze data and use problem solving techniques to resolve issues and implement change
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to schedule resources effectively so continuous improvement is not sacrificed for day-to- day results
  • Knowledge and experience with automated packaging and palletizing systems
  • Strong technical, managerial and leadership skills in Project Engineering/Management
  • Knowledge of plant design and construction techniques.
  • Familiar with GMPs, quality attributes, critical control points, GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) requirements and audits.
  • Knowledge of food safety, regulatory requirements for food safety and equipment
  • Understanding of financial analysis and relevant business drivers
  • Familiarity with CAPEX budgeting and preparation processes
  • Proficiency in MS Office, MS Project, MS Excel, AutoCAD or Visio
